With the warmer weather setting in, it’s time to think about the jewellery trends for Spring 2019. This season, bold, statement trends are definitely big. With this in mind, it’s time to ditch subtle pieces and replace them with in-your-face accessories. The runways are already filled with bracelets and necklaces piled on top of each other, and we can only expect this trend to grow. Get ready for layered earrings, with chunky, oversized hoops paired with long dangling styles. In this article, we explore the trendy jewellery for Spring 2019 in more detail.

Chain-Link Necklaces

Chain-link necklaces are nothing new. Popular since the ’80s, this trend is expected to continue in Spring 2019. One thing that has changed, however, is the style of necklace. Instead of basic gold chains, this season welcomes exaggerated shapes and glamorous finishes. This trend has already been seen on the runways of Monse, Marni, Hermes, and Off-White.

Seashell Jewels

As sunny afternoons become more regular, beach themed jewels are popping up everywhere. Anna Sui has designed an eye-catching piece with colourful shells connected with beads and gold accents. Missoni glammed up delicate hoops with mismatched seashells, and Oscar de la Renta accented chains with coral reef pendants.

Open Cuff Necklaces

Chokers were a popular trend last season. This year, they’re back with a sophisticated twist. Open cuff necklaces are a growing trend this spring, with Fendi showing off a colourful enamel design on the runway. Dior has also jumped on the trend, sending models down the catwalk with the brand’s name boldly displayed on the necklace.

Layered Coins

Coin necklaces have been on the scene for a few years now. However, the trend is bigger than ever this Spring with the layered designs that we’ve all been waiting for. Some pieces are chains adorned with charms, while others are layered up with stacks of coins wrapped around the neck.

Neck Bags

While bags are technically an accessory, Neck Bags definitely cross into the ‘jewellery’ category. This trend is thought to have sprung from belt bags; the bag started around the waist, moved to across the chest, and this season we’ll be wearing bags around our necks. While this may sound impractical, it actually works quite well. The neck bag trend is restricted to tiny pouches, so there is no harm of strains or sprains.

Charm Embellished Belts

This season, we’ll see a rise in bejewelled belts. This trend was started by Gucci’s Alessandro Michele, Versace’s Donatella, and Chanel’s Karl Lagerfeld who all added charms to belts in their Spring collections.

Crescent Earrings

Traditional hoops remain on-trend year upon year. This season, it’s time to take things to the next level with bold, half-moon designs. Valentino was the first to show this trend, sending models down the runway with gold crescent earrings. Ulla Johnson jumped on the trend shortly after, bringing out a range of statement, open-hoop earrings.

Logo Jewels

Following on from last season, the logo trend is still front-and-centre. Many of the top designers are released branded jewels, putting their name on necklaces, earrings, and belts. With Balenciaga and Dior jumping on board, we can expect to see more logo jewels this Spring.

Ear Cuffs

This season, earrings have been taken up a notch. Brands such as Margiela, Mugler, and Fendi are releasing bold ear cuffs for spring wear. Margiela loved the simple look, Mugler went futuristic, and Fendi targeted their jewels towards sportspeople.

Layered Necklaces

Layered necklaces have been popular for a few years now, with Spring 2019 being no different. This season, the layered style has been perfected by Paco Rabanne, with pendants designed by Charlotte Chesnais. In addition to simple chains, a mismatched look with vintage pendants and unusual stones will keep you on-trend.

Arm Cuff

Arm Cuffs are another popular trend this season. Last year, the ancient-inspired jewellery was worn by Natacha Ramsay-Levi at her first Chloé show. This season, Chloé has brought new and improved designs to the table. Other brands are following in Chloé’s footsteps, with Saint Laurent and Giambattista Valli releasing bejewelled cuffs with natural stones.

Wild West Theme

In 2018, the Wild West theme took over the runways. This season, it’s back with a vengeance. At Louis Vuitton, feathered designs are hitting the shelves, while Loewe has released tribal jewels.

High Lobe Piercing

If you’re feeling rebellious this Spring, stay on-trend with a high lobe piercing. Most women have the standard lobe piercing but having a stud slightly above this is now popular, too. Other popular placements are the tase rook or contra-conch, which are also designed to flatter existing piercings.

Coloured Enamel

This season rose gold has been replaced with coloured enamel. According to the top brands, 2019 is a breakout year for colour. If you’re a fan of this trend, keep your eyes open for jewellery by Irene Neuwirth – a designer known as the “Queen of Colour”.

Layered Earrings

Layered bracelets and necklaces have been around for years, but this season welcomes layered earrings to the party. Instead of pairing statement earrings with a smaller stud, Spring 2019 is the time to go all-out. For maximum effect, try to stick to a theme. If you’re looking to stay on-trend, why not go for coined or seashell themed earrings? Alternatively, celestial elements like stars, moons, and lightning bolts are a popular choice. Allowing you to add multiple elements to each ear, we can expect to see layered earrings on the runways this season.
